I have a few larger projects in the works, simply they are taking a bit of time to finish up, so I thought I'd commencement with something simple and perfect for my vintage-inspired kitchen:

Bricklayer Jar Lather Dispensers!

There are a million tutorials showing how to make these cute dispensers (similar this i from Heather Bullard or this one from Team Bowen), but I couldn't decide which assembly method I wanted to use. I ended upwards trying two different versions and both came out great! Since I've washed all the detective work already AND considering I love y'all so much, I'thousand going to show you BOTH ways and requite yous my thoughts on which was easier! I know… I'yard and then thoughtful. You can send baked goods to thank me : )

soap bottle with pump

Step Two: Put the lid back on the mason jar upside down (so you tin see your circumvolve) and screw on the ring to hold the chapeau in place. Place a small screwdriver (or other pointed object) inside the circle, and using a hammer, tap the screwdriver until it pierces through the hat. Go on making holes until the unabridged circle is gone. Use modest pliers to remove any remaining pieces of lid inside the circle. Try to brand your circumvolve as perfect as possible.

Pace 4: Next plough your soap canteen on its side, and cutting off the summit of the bottle only below the threads. (I used a hand saw for this.)

Step Five: Spray paint the lids of your jar, if you wish to do and so. I recommend a coat of metallic primer commencement, and then your spray paint colour of choice, and then a few coats of sealer to protect them. I chose oil-rubbed bronze for my lids, and I've been going gaga over how gorgeous this color is! Why accept I never used information technology before??

Pace Six: Adhere the peak of the soap bottle to the jar lid past applying a proficient corporeality of glue to the underside of the lid. Don't worry virtually it being pretty, considering it won't exist. Information technology's on the lesser of the chapeau, so you won't run across it. Let the glue dry out as directed on the package, and screw the soap pump into the chapeau!

Method #ii

Footstep I: Take the pump out of the soap canteen and wash to remove any soap left on the pump.

And then pretty! I used the larger jar for dish soap and the smaller jar for mitt lather, and permit me tell you, I am totally SMITTEN with them! They were both piece of cake and cheap to brand and expect adorable sitting past my sink!

Hither'southward my verdict on Method #1 vs. Method #2:

I tried the first method because I idea information technology might add a bit more sturdiness belongings the lather pump and make it terminal longer throughout the years. I tried the 2d method because information technology sounded easier, and well… I'g all about easier! And although both ways worked slap-up, I found Method #2 to be not only easier but but as sturdy as the showtime jar, and information technology saved me the step of having to cut the top of the soap bottle! Method #2 besides left more room for error when making the pigsty in the chapeau. If you accidentally make the hole a fleck larger than needed, the top of the pump will still cover the pigsty nicely, and you lot won't fifty-fifty observe. Yous don't have every bit much leeway with the start method!

In example yous're curious what size jars and lather bottles to buy, hither'southward what I used:

7.5 oz canteen of soap with a pint size mason jar

35 oz bottle of lather with a quart size mason jar

And here's the toll breakdown:

pint size stonemason jar – $1.47

minor bottle of soap – $0.88

quart size mason jar – Gratuitous (I had one at dwelling house)

large bottle of soap – $v.97

outdoor adhesive – $iii.47

spray pigment – $5.77

Total COST: $17.56

Keen for such a cute project! Of course, I only used a tiny chip of adhesive and spray paint, so it actually didn't fifty-fifty toll me that much. And you may already have some mason jars and erstwhile soap bottles you could use at home! The smaller soap pump was like shooting fish in a barrel to find in the manus soap section at Walmart, and afterwards searching for awhile I finally found a larger bottle of body wash with a pump that worked for my large mason jar. I merely had to trim the end of the pump a petty to fit.
